i wouldn’t go this far with myself but i respect the sentiment of the people who do.

i think a useless things sometimes but you know what is different about tv shows now?  a lot of shows took out the theme song where they show the cast and have some type of catchy tune that makes the show somewhat memorable.  it’s disappointing that there are some really great shows out but at the same time, it’s used to make the most time for the show’s content that we loose the theme song.

that theme song somewhat gives the show a personality whether it be dark, happy, quarky or just an emotional attachment to that show.  i think that with all these shows that are on tv, you won’t really remember much except for what it was about.  it’s amazing that when you hear a theme of a show that you haven’t seen in a long time, it makes nostalgic about that time period or what you relate to when you hear that song.

let’s go through some theme songs off the top of my head:

california dreams – smell of bacon on saturday morning; knowing that if i turned on the tv and it was on i missed saved by the bell; remembering that this is all i worried about when i woke up

golden girls/empty nest – all of my family and cousins would go to the beach almost every weekend during the summer.  whenever we came home and turned on the tv while everyone rested, had coffee, and talked more, this would usually be on when we could come home.

l.a. law – makes me remember how iconic this theme was but hated the show cuz i was too young to care for it.

fresh prince of bel-air – i actually enjoyed mondays when it was still in syndication

how i met your mother – i’m glad they stuck a catchy humming tune in the beginning filled with pictures like it’s a blur of memories flashing by you.  it worked and i like the show because they stuck to how a sitcom should be and that’s with having a theme song.

also do you realize how difficult it is to have a song that will be catchy enough to listen to weekly?  also the writer who can come up with lyrics that’s relative to the show?

cheers.  out of this world.  charles in charge.  perfect strangers.  the nanny.  felicity.  ally mcbeal.  m*a*s*h.  three’s company.  good times.  friends.  who’s the boss?  alf.  facts of life.  family ties.  living single.

where was i?  i was sitting in my cubicle at work watching the live stream on

it’s been pretty inspiring to witness history today especially at an age where you can comprehend what’s going on.  the president is not going to solve all the problems but it’s a great start to find a leader who you can believe in and trust.  we need another great orator and a voice of confidence and i believe he’s portrayed that on election day as well as his inauguration.  i think i’ve always considered myself to be pretty conservative in my beliefs but i also think i’m very open-minded when i listen to other people’s views.  i always believed everyone should be given a chance before pointing the finger or not hearing them out.  i just think it’s nice to feel a sense of calmness from all the political tension besides the true right-winged supporters who are finding their next leader instead of working together with the current one.

the one thing i like about the obama’s has to be their poise with the situation.  there isn’t a stuffiness about them.  barack actually seems to be a good role model as a father and a husband.  the first dance tonight almost seemed as if it was their wedding.  the fact that they enjoyed the ceremony as it was their celebration.  it was elegant, they looked how you picture the president and the first lady to show up to an event – it was one of those moments that people are watching the tv wishing to be there or wanting to be them at that moment.  yeah i’ll say it, it was glamorous.  and dam, even jack johnson showed up for the joint!  pretty slick.

he has a tough road ahead of him and it’s not going to be simply executed but i believe that he picked a team that is going to work well together.  there’s an energy about his team and his demeanor that not just the US seems to grab onto, but the world as well.  it’s been a while since there have been kids who say “i want to be the president of the united states.”  i hope no one takes advantage of his humility and his generosity to fight for his citizens but that they will work just as hard to prove that they deserve it as well.

hope and change.  it’s what you make of it.  you can’t just wait for it to happen.

you da blang, son!

so i completed 1/3 of my “i’m going to…’s” which is pretty ridiculous.  the 6 miles was easy mainly because of the EP5K event at the end of the week so it was given that i could complete that.  i can say one thing though, just doing another 5K – i know now that it’s doable and i can do a little more.  i remember the 10K being pretty killer but i’d really want to push myself into doing the half marathon next year.  i’d prefer to do it in houston because well…the terrain is flat for the most part.

i want the shirt.  haha, that’s what i really want.  it’s that sense of status knowing what you trained for and survived.  doing a marathon is pretty unreal to me right now because i am nowhere near that kind of shape but it’s a great test of your self will and drive to complete something on your own and you are your own opponent in finishing.  it’s just a clean shirt.  all i’m saying.

my next challenges:

i’m calling my…
i’m going to take a great photo
i’m going to learn a scale on the guitar

and raising me…
i’m going to run a 6mi run
i’m going save $300 in a month

i think it’s a good find.  pretty interesting background details about the crews of the past and on the up-coming season.  it seems like a lot of the groups have some potential this season.  i think like idol, sytycd, dancing with the stars, etc.  the bar gets set higher each year, especially with dance – quality can’t drop because it’s all visual.  it’s what you do with the music and how you bring it out that makes you remember it.

anyway, it’s always been a dumb obsession – all this stuff.  it keeps me inspired though.

kinda like my corner bakery cafe review.

it’s one of those sleepless nights.  my schedule is outta whack.  eating pattern is flipped all around.  i need to get off my ass to exercise.  one thing i want to use this blog for is to make myself do things.  sort of a to-do list.  not necessarily an errand list, but i want to make it something where i have to accomplish a task for the week.  whether it be to meet a new person, shake a hand, read a chapter of a book, go see a foreign film, tell a friend a story, etc.

i think that’s what i want this year to be for me.  last year, i had a lot of firsts and i would say that in 2008, turning 25 was a milestone in my life and in that chapter, i had accomplished…more like crammed a lot of things in before i turned 25.  that’s a story for another day.

but like the portrait above, i see myself in this state of being borderline gray…  when i see gray, honestly i think it’s a great color but symbolically, i see it as a sign of monotony, routine, and predictable.  but on the other side of that white line, there’s a sense of vibrance and calmness at the same time.

i don’t ever want to get comfortable with life yet.  i feel that when you get comfortable, you lose motivation or for better words, content.  so i’m going to start off my “i’m going to’s” for the week.

i’m going to run at least 6 miles this week.
i’m going to take one great photo.
i’m going to learn one scale on the guitar.

think i can do this for 51 more weeks?  :-P
